World No2, 6 Day ranking confirmed
With the final 6 day ultra distance race of the year having now been completed in Monaco, I am now confirmed as the World No 2 ranked athlete for 2008. In addition to this, in a head-to-head with the eventual World No1, Wolfgang Schwerk of Germany, I was the victor.
My performance of 532.6 miles (that’s over 20 marathons) completed in the heat of July in Hamm, Germany means that I move up from 3rd last year to 2nd this year in the overall world rankings compiled from all known 6 day performances this year.
I remain unbeaten in my specialist 6 day event and have never been out of the world top 3 since my debut in this event in 2006.
It has been particularly pleasing this year to split the two athletes who have dominated this event for the past decade, Wolfgang Schwerk and Yiannis Kouros of Greece.
