William sets 2 new records!

Latest news from Royan, straight from William himself. Please bear in mind that while all the following information is reliable it is subject to confirmation/ratification  – William told me that this is the

“Best info I have – I have no printed info.”

At the 48hr point William completed 198.8 miles / 320km.

His split for the two days was (at least approximately)

108.73 miles / 175km on day one

90 miles / 144.8 km on the 2nd day

Assuming the figures to be correct, this means William will have set 2 new UK age group records :

The Scottish M55 48hr Road Record

&

The British M55 48hr Road Record
William isn’t sure of his final race position but said

“I think I was the 5th man. “
The winner of the Men’s Race was Christian Fatton (I believe from Switzerland) who set a new PB in the race (but I’m afraid neither William nor I currently know the exact distance, probably over 360km as I seem to recall his previous PB was just below this).

(sorry, I have no information as yet as to the Women’s Race winner, nor any info on other positions.)

William described the race as being

“On the whole well organised but a hard course with so many bends and different qualities of surface.”

In case you are wondering why William didn’t have further details it is because he is already on his way home, having left almost immediately once the race was over, he told me that he

“…had to leave Royan at short notice as more wild cat strikes tomorrow and too great a chance I would have got stuck in Royan and missed flight home tomorrow night.”

I’ll pass on any messages to William as soon as I can.

All in all it sounds like he has managed (yet) another excellent performance.

Now we’ll be concentrating on getting him in shape for is next race, the 48 Hour Ultra Indoor Normand Evreux – again in France – on December 2nd-4th.

Naturally William will be looking for a greater distance next time… And I’ll be doing my best to offer coverage here on the Blog.

More news as and if I get it,
