Orkney’s Ultra Distance Runner, William Sichel (56) successfully completely his first 1000 mile Footrace last Monday, in Athens Greece.
William finished the race in second place overall in 13 days 19 hours 3 minutes 1 second. En-route William set World Age Group Records for 6 Days, 1000Kms and the 1000 miles. William also set a personnel best for distance covered in 7 days.
A total of sixteen athletes started the race on Monday March 15th and at the time of writing 4 have completed the distance – three men and one women.
The weather conditions during the day were in the 20C’s, but night-time conditions were ideal for William, dropping to no less than 10C. But unfortunately the last two days were extremely windy, in what became known as the Athens Storm. This made the final finishing days even harder than anticipated.
“Completing the 1000 miles was the greatest sporting achievement I have ever experienced, – overwhelming. ”
William would like to thank sponsors Myprotein and Loganair.
