Self-Transcendence 6-Day Race, New York, 2012 – Bye for now

Well, that’s about it for the race coverage of the Self-Transcendence 6-Day

William came 3rd in what was a very tough race which suffered at times from torrential rain, some flooding on the course, high winds and apparently at one point a car blocking the track (!).

Despite all this, the event has been a huge success and I think it is safe to say that a lot of fun was had by all (at least, by some people’s definition of “fun”. I did also hear the race described by one commentator as “my idea of hell” – but that’s the “pleasure” of ultra-running…)

Congratulations naturally to the race winner Galya Vladimyr Balatskyy (aged 40, from Mariupol, Ukraine) and the men’s #2 Ashprihanal Aalto (aged 41, Helsinki, Finland) and to the women’s winner Dipali Cunningham (age 53, Jamaica, NY, USA) – but equally to ALL the runners in both the 6-Day race and the 10-Day races.

A huge thanks and well done too to the incredibly hard working and dedicated team of Sri Chinmoy supporters who made the races happen. Their sterling efforts are much appreciated within the sport and have made yet another event not only possible but also a joy to be involved with.

That’s about it from me – I’ll let William take a few days off to recover and then it will be back to training for the next race…

All the best

Shaun
