Royan 48hr Race 15-17th October 2010

The 48hr ultra-distance race in Royan, France will begin later today (Friday 15th October).

This is William’s first visit to the seaside town of Royan, in the Charente-Maritime region of France, north of Bordeaux.  Those following the blog will realise that William was delayed in Bordeaux due to ongoing strikes in France, but he managed to get to the race venue on Thursday afternoon.

Having spoken to other runners who have previously competed at events in Royan,  the race is likely to be a good event – although the course chosen for this race leaves a lot to be desired (more on that in a later post).

40 competitors are expected to start the 48hr race. They will be joined on Saturday by a further 44 runners in a separate 24hr race taking place on the same course at the same time (both races will thus finish together).

William has travelled to the race alone and so we will not be getting race-side reports from William’s crew, but I hope to have information and updates from others at the race. I will post information here as often as possible.
