How LEVER Helped Me Run Again After My Hip Replacement

I bought my LEVER system in February 2023, three months before my hip replacement in late May that year. I wanted a way to stay active and keep my fitness going before the operation. It was a huge success!

What the LEVER system does
LEVER is a body weight support system that fits onto a treadmill. It takes some of your weight while you run, so you can keep your normal running action with less impact on your joints. That meant I could keep running right up to my surgery, and get back to running during my recovery.
Running again after my hip replacement
I used the LEVER for all my running for the first 12 months I had it, from February 2023 right up to the Seville Marathon in February 2024. Twelve weeks after the operation, I ran a half marathon on the road. Eight months after it, I completed the Seville Marathon in Spain, all with no issues at all.

Back to ultramarathons
I’ve since become known as the Hip Replacement Runner, and I’ve returned to my first love, ultramarathons. In March I won M70 bronze at the GOMU World 48 Hour Championships in Italy, and in September I finished 4th in the M70 category at the GOMU 6 Day World Championship in Hungary, running just over 300 miles.
I’d recommend LEVER to anyone facing surgery, and to any runner who wants to keep training with less impact on their body.
