GOMU 6 Day World Championship: Day 1
William covered 101.496km in the first 24 hours, in a temperature of 31°C with high humidity. Difficult conditions from the start.
Two photos from William: his fuelling, a pot of chia pudding and a bread roll, and the soles of his shoes after a day on the 898.2-metre loop. No commentary came with the first one. Alan suspects it speaks for itself.

From William
William recorded a voice message from the course just after midday on Friday, at the end of his first 24 hours:
"Just recording the first day’s report. It’s just gone midday. Looks like I’ve done just over 100k. I haven’t seen the official figure. My watch says 102, but that includes coming in here, so it’s probably around 101 or 102, not sure.
My comment: very pleased with that. It’s testing conditions, and obviously my first multi-day for almost seven years, so I’m pleased with what I’ve done really. A bit less than I was on the plan, but then it’s seriously hot at times and I’m not prepared to push to hit a target. I don’t think it’s reasonable on a day like that. So I’m pleased with what I’ve done. I’m resting OK, having regular rests, a couple of quite long sleeps every day. Just being kind to myself really.
The race is well organised and it’s a pretty good course, but obviously exposed to the sun, and it’s around 30 most of the time except in the evening. So that’s my report for today.”
Day 2 report tomorrow afternoon.
