George Littlewood – centenary of death
December 4th was the centenary of the death of one of the greatest 6 Day runners the world has ever known.
Sheffield’s George Littlewood ironically died of TB at just 53. He is best remembered for his 1888 run in Madison Square Garden, New York where he set a new World Record of 623¾ miles – a record that lasted 96 years!
It was eventually broken by Greek Yiannis Kouros in 1984.
Sheffield still remembers one of it’s greatest sporting sons and here is a link to a recent article from the Sheffield Star.
