Featured in The Orcadian: “Sichel set for next ultramarathon”

Before the GOMU 6 Day World Championships, The Orcadian ran a preview on its Running page under the headline "Sichel set for next ultramarathon.” The piece covered my arrival in western Hungary on 1 September for the race in Balatonfüred, on the shores of Lake Balaton, which was my 113th ultramarathon since my debut in 1994.

It also looked back at my previous race, the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour in Slovakia in May, where I set a Scottish M70 road record on the way to winning my age group, and mentioned the support I receive from the Athlete Travel Awards Scheme (ATAS), funded by Orkney Islands Council, sportscotland and Orkney Builders.

My thanks to The Orcadian for the coverage.

You can read how the six days went in Back With My Tribe: Six Days in Hungary, and follow the day by day reports on the GOMU 6 Day World Championship 2026 race page.

The Orcadian Running page cutting headlined "Sichel set for next ultramarathon", previewing William Sichel's 113th ultramarathon at the GOMU Six Day World Championships in Balatonfüred.
