Athens – had a chat with William
I had a surprise phone call from William earlier this evening, he rang me to ask for an opinion / advice on a couple of points while taking a break. I can honestly say that he sounded extremely well and relaxed (I’ve had conversations with him on the phone during a normal week when he’s sounded more tired than he did today! Really, that’s not an exaggeration). He’s currently sleeping well and eating very well indeed (apparently having finished off Tim’s grub earlier, as well as his own).
William took a longer break this evening before returning to the track, so I wouldn’t have been surprised (or concerned) to see his mileage apparently drop a touch, but as it happens this seems barely noticeable and despite taking an extra rest, he is still in 2nd place, about 40km ahead of the #3. With a cooler night ahead I expect to see him doing nicely in the next few hours. Wolfgang Schwerk will have extended his lead during this time, but this isn’t something we are too concerned about.
William sends his best wishes to all his followers and his thanks to everyone who has sent him messages. He’s naturally delighted to have got a new M55 World Record but is pretty much putting this out of his mind at present to concentrate on the race ahead. There is still a long way to go, but William is very much up for the challenge.
More news as I get it.
