Athens 1000 mile – 24 entrants… But only 15 start?
The 1000 mile world cup race is now under way, with William off to a nice, steady start.
The latest news from Alan on-the-spot at trackside in Athens is that there are only 15 starters out of 24 official entrants.
We were somewhat expecting that some runners may pull out before the start (and quite possibly others may do so during the race, even close to the end) – this is not necessarily due to nerves about the distance; entries have to be made well in advance which inevitably means that something (e.g. injury) might occur between the time of entry and the start of the race – but if the field has indeed dropped by over 1/3rd before the race has begun, this is a bit of a surprise.
More news as I get it
